Alberta revises application fees for AAIP

In a significant shift impacting prospective immigrants, Alberta has revised its application fees and policies under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) as of April 1, 2025. These changes aim to align the program with current administrative costs and evolving immigration strategies.

The application fee for AAIP's worker streams has risen from $840 to $1,500, marking a substantial increase. This adjustment affects the following streams:

  • Tourism and Hospitality Stream
  • Alberta Opportunity Stream
  • Alberta Express Entry Stream
  • Rural Renewal Stream

Additionally, the Farm Stream, designed for experienced farmers intending to establish or purchase a farm in Alberta, has seen its application fee surge from $500 to $3,500. The fee for reissuing an expired nomination certificate has also increased from $100 to $150.

Beyond fee changes, Alberta has implemented several policy modifications:

  • The province has ceased issuing invitations under the Family Connection and Occupation in Demand pathways. However, applicants can still claim points for having a qualifying family connection in Alberta, such as a parent, sibling, or child who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • As of March 17, 2025, Alberta has withdrawn from the federal government's temporary public policy facilitating open work permits for prospective PNP candidates.
  • As of April 1, 2025, the AAIP accepts the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Core as valid proof of language proficiency across all streams, providing applicants with more flexibility in meeting language requirements.
  • Alberta's nomination allocation for 2025 has been reduced by 50%, from 9,750 in 2024 to 4,875.

Prospective applicants should ensure they meet the updated requirements and prepare for the increased financial commitments associated with the application process.

Staying informed about these developments is crucial for individuals considering immigration to Alberta. Applicants are advised to review the latest guidelines and prepare their applications accordingly to navigate the evolving landscape of Alberta's immigration policies.
