Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has announced that the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel program is now accepting applications from 17 March 2022 onwards enabling Canadian employers to include jobs for Ukrainians in the country’s online job bank.
Under this program, the refugees can stay in Canada for up to 36 months and will be eligible for free open work/study permits. Any Ukrainian student, worker, or visitor who is already in Canada on a temporary basis can also apply to extend their stay.
In order to ease the application process, mobile biometrics kits have been sent to certain European countries like Bucharest and Vienna to take biometric information of the prospective Ukrainian refugees. Temporary centers for the collection of biometrics have also been opened.
In a series of tweets, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has said:
“With this new program, those fleeing (Russian President) Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine will be able to stay in Canada for up to three years and are eligible for free open work and study permits. We are working with partners, including provinces and territories, the business community, the Ukrainian-Canadian community, and settlement organizations on how best to support Ukrainians. We stand with Ukraine and will offer safe harbor for those who want to come to Canada.”
