Syed Khan – February 15, 2022

The IRCC has recently announced that fully vaccinated travelers will be able to travel to Canada without any further testing at the airports for COVID-19 starting from February 28th. The country has begun to relax its public health restrictions, but unvaccinated travelers would still need to get tested for COVID-19 upon arrival and after 7 days upon arrival while observing quarantine for 14 days.

Canada is also allowing travelers to take the rapid antigen test, either 72 hours or, 1 day prior or on arrival in the country.

As of now, only 18 Canadian airports are allowing international flights with unvaccinated foreign travelers, but this will change after 28th February with all airports receiving international flights.

However, despite relaxing health and travel restrictions, and removing the travel advisory on its official website, the Canadian government is still warning travelers to be cautious about the health risks posed during international travel.

All Canadian travelers would still need to submit their information, proof of vaccination, and quarantine plan on the ArriveCAN app prior to arrival in the country.

Quote by Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos:

“For two years now, our government’s actions in the fight against COVID-19 have been based on prudence and science. Today’s announcements are a reflection of the progress we have made against this current Omicron variant. The return to mandatory random testing of all vaccinated travelers will facilitate travel for Canadians all while helping our public health authorities to detect future changes in COVID-19 importation rates and variants of concern. As we have said all along, Canada’s border measures will remain flexible and adaptable, for potential future scenarios.”

Quote by Transport Minister Omar Alghabra:

“The measures we are announcing today are possible in part because Canadians have stepped up, rolled up their sleeves, and gotten vaccinated”
