Syed Khan – 21 September 2021,
The U.S. has once again extended the closure of the land border with Canada till October 21. The U.S land borders to both Canada and Mexico will remain closed despite Canada allowing fully vaccinated American travelers since the start of August.
The land borders have been closed since March 2020, but America has slowly eased restrictions on air travel for fully vaccinated foreigners. Now those traveling to the U.S by air will need proof of completed vaccination and a negative test taken 72 hours before boarding. Unvaccinated U.S citizens will now require a test one day before traveling to or leaving the country. Vaccinated travellers will be exempt from quarantine on arrival.
Canada started allowing all fully vaccinated international travelers with a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of their flight from September 7th. Before travel, all details must be uploaded to the ArriveCAN app.
The IRCC has informed applicants who for a visitor visa before September 7 to re-apply if their requirement to travel has changed and they are traveling to Canada for one of the following reasons.
- to reunite with family members in Canada, including permanent and temporary residents
- for compassionate reasons such as attending a funeral, being present during the final moments of a loved one’s life, and providing care to a critically ill person
- to visit on business
- to assume a position as a diplomat, or to travel as an accompanying immediate family member
- to join a vessel as a marine crew member
- to handle the affairs of a victim of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752.
