The IRCC Canada is now allowing new candidates for PR to confirm their status online without an in-person interview by simply logging in and responding to emails of the secure Permanent Residence Portal.
The IRCC is now sending out emails to permanent residents to confirm their status. In the emails, the email address of the sender will end with @cic.gc.ca and the email will be written in both French and English. The email will be titled “IRCC – Permanent Residence Portal (PR Confirmation) / Portail de résidence Permanente (Confirmation de la RP)”. If the candidate has applied for PR but has not received this email, they should check their junk mail or spam folders.
A link to the PR Portal will also be displayed for easy access. When the candidate clicks on the link, they will be asked to do the following:
- Submit a declaration of them living in Canada at the time of application
- An address confirmation
- Submit a recent picture that can be used to make the PR card
Guidelines for photo submission:
- Photo should be neither too dark nor too bright
- The background of the photo should be white
- No visible glare should be seen on the photograph
- Facial features should be easily recognizable
- Submission should be JPEG or PNG format only
- The photograph once submitted cannot be changed
Eligibility criteria for PR applicants:
- Should have lived or resided Canada for at least three years in the last five years
- Meet the language requirements set by the IRCC
- Have filed their income tax reports
- Can pass a citizenship test
Exceptions to this are candidates who have committed a crime or have a criminal history. The IRCC advises such candidates who are unsure about their eligibility for citizenship to contact their lawyer or arresting officer.
