Ontario is the most populous province in Canada. About 40% of the nation’s population lives in this province making it the main destination for immigration and travel. Now, with Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program or OINP as it is called, moving to this province has become easier.

OINP

Operating in alignment with Express Entry Canada, the OINP has gained popularity for its various entry routes, swift and fast screening method and uncomplicated eligibility criteria. The program supports all employers by facilitating the immigration of skilled and professional workers as well as international students needed to fulfil their human resources requirements.

Ontario operates the program partnering with IRCC. Interested candidates should follow a two-stage method: apply for the nomination to provincial government and then when nominated apply for permanent residency to federal government.

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program Streams

The OINP deals with three immigration classes: Employer Job Offer, Business Immigration and Human Capital. Each of these category is again divided into many streams.

Employer Job Offer is divided into:

  • Foreign Worker
  • In-Demand Skills
  • International Student

Business Immigration is sub-divided into:

  • Entrepreneur Stream
  • Corporate Stream

Human Capital is categorized into:

  • Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker
  • Express Entry Skilled Trade
  • Express Entry Human Capital Priorities
  • Masters Graduate
  • PhD Graduate

Processing Times

The processing times can be divided into two phases:

  • how long the province takes for issuing the nomination
  • how long does it take for the PR visa to be processed as well as issued

Presently, Ontario estimates their processing times to be between 2-3 months for most of the streams. Applications for Express Entry Skilled Trades are processed within 1-2 months. The processing times for the Business applications’ depend on each file’s complexity.

At federal level, IRCC processes the non-Express nominee applications of the province within fifteen to nineteen months. For Express Entry streams, average of six months applies.
