RNIP immigration pilot continues welcoming permanent residents

According to the IRCC’s most recent data, there were ten times as many new permanent residents this year than the previous one who settled in RNIP-designated Canadian communities.

The RNIP is a five-year community-driven pilot program designed to spread the benefits of economic immigration to smaller communities by creating a path to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who want to work and live in one of the participating communities.

In 2020, Canada welcomed 50 new permanent residents through the program. In 2021, 555 immigrants became permanent residents through the RNIP. In the first quarter of this year, 625 new permanent residents settled in small communities through the RNIP. This program was introduced after the massive success of the Atlantic Immigration Program.

Requirements to qualify for the RNIP:

● Have at least 1 year of continuous work experience amounting to at least 1,560 hours in the last 36 months.

● Should score at least 6 points on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) in English for occupations under NOC 0 and A. For jobs under NOC B, 5 points on the CLB are mandatory.

● Meet the requirements set by the participating community and state an intent to reside and work in that respective community.

● Possess a Canadian equivalent Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD

● Possess a valid full-time, permanent job offer from the respective community.

IRCC holds first all-program Express Entry draw in 2022

The IRCC, for the first time since December 2020, in its recently held draw on 6th July, sent 1,500 invites to Express Entry candidates to apply for PR. All these invitations were sent to overseas candidates nominated via the PNP, with a minimum score of 557 points. This was the 14th round of invitations under Express Entry in 2022.

Back in 2020, all-program and Canadian Experience Class draws were suspended due to a huge backlog of applications that awaited processing. Now, after the IRCC has resumed all-program draws, new applications will be processed within six months.

The applicants are ranked in the pool using the CRS, a points-based system. The
candidates who scored the maximum CRS points are then invited to apply for
permanent residence. If more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.

Back in April, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser had announced a massive budget of $2.1 billion to be spent on improving PR processing times as the country currently grapples with an enormous immigration application processing backlog.

“I know that processing delays have been incredibly frustrating for many individuals.
Helping clients come to Canada quickly, with predictable processing times and efficient
communication with IRCC remains a top priority for me.”

Canada announces increase in Ontario’s immigration allocation from this year

The Canadian federal government has announced that Ontario’s immigration allocation will be boosted to 9,750, a more than 8 percent increase compared to 2021. Following this announcement Ontario will now be able to nominate more people through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.

During the first part of 2021, the allocated number was 8,600 but Ontario had
successfully managed to reach 9,000 through an in-year reallocation.

The OINP had previously stated that the Entrepreneur Pilot will be launched in collaboration with the Toronto Business Development Centre.

This two-year pilot is aimed at recruiting 100 foreign entrepreneurs to invest at least
$200,000 each towards buying or starting their own businesses outside the Greater
Toronto Area.

Through this program, Ontario hopes to create jobs in sectors like tourism and
economically promote the region by attracting an estimated $20 million in investment.
Candidates who buy or start business through the Entrepreneur Program can obtain PR
after the business has been operating in Ontario for 18 – 20 months.

The province of Ontario has one of the highest rates in all provinces and territories of
bringing in economic immigrants. Ontario Immigration also offers candidates faster
processing options like the Global Talent Stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker
Program which processes applications in under 2 weeks. The Skilled Worker Program
has significantly increased the number of immigrants as more than 3,555 migrants
became permanent residents under it in 2021. From January to October, 165
new permanent residents settled in Ontario under Start-Up and Self-Employed business
programs.
