Nova Scotia Immigration issues 30 invitations in its latest entrepreneur draw

Nova Scotia immigration invited 30 candidates through two streams in its latest business immigration draw. The September 13th draw was held via its Nova Scotia Nominee Program. 28 invitations were sent out through the Entrepreneur stream, and 2 invitations via the International Graduate Entrepreneur stream. The minimum score of the former was 120 points and for the latter, it was 57 points.

About the Nova Scotia Entrepreneur stream:

  • This stream targets candidates who have the ownership of a business or have senior management experience.
  • They must be living in Nova Scotia
  • Start a new business OR buy rights and ownership of an existing business
  • Actively participate in the day-to-day management of that business.
  • The applicants are first issued a temporary work permit before applying for permanent residence. This is after they have participated in operating the business for a year.
  • The candidates are invited to apply via an EOI

To qualify the candidate must have:

  • An Expression of Interest (EOI)
  • The invitation to apply from the province
  • Give an in-person interview and Agreement of Business Performance
  • Must possess a work permit and business establishment in Nova Scotia
  • Request for Nomination
  • Applied for Permanent Residence

The candidate requirements are as follows:

  • The candidate must be 21 or older.
  • Wish to settle permanently in Nova Scotia while owning and actively managing a business in the province.
  • Have a minimum net worth of $600,000.
  • Make a minimum investment of $150,000 to establish or purchase a business in Nova Scotia.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of experience in actively managing and owning a business (should possess minimum 33 percent ownership ) OR have more than 5 years of experience in a senior business management role.
  • Have a score of a minimum of 5 on the Canadian Language Benchmark test in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English or French.

Ontario PNP invites 995 workers and international students in the latest draw held on 21st September

Ontario held four Expression of Interest draws and issued 995 invitations for foreign workers and international students on September 21. Each stream had two draws conducted for it. In order to qualify for these draws, the candidates to create their profiles between April 28 and September 21, 2021.

Up to 406 candidates being invited via the foreign worker stream, a general draw, and 36 candidates were invited via the Regional Immigration Pilot. The minimum score for the former was 37 points on the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program points grid.

532 invitations were issued via the International student stream, which is a general draw. The minimum score was 61 points for this draw.  An additional targeted draw, the  Regional Immigration Pilot draw issued 30 invitations to candidates.

Candidates can apply to the Ontario EOI through the following streams:

  • Employer Job Offer stream
  • In-Demand Skills stream
  • International Student stream
  • Foreign Worker stream
  • Masters Graduate
  • Ph.D. Graduate

The ranking system awards points based on the following categories:

  • The candidate’s level of education and field of study or work.
  • Proficiency in English or French.
  • The candidate’s intention to settle outside of the Greater Toronto Area.
  • The applicant’s skill and work experience level, history of earning and income, other factors relevant to prospects in Ontario job market.
  • The labor market needs in Ontario.

To qualify for the Foreign Worker Stream: the applicant must have:

  • A permanent and full-time job offer under NOC 0, A or B that meets the median wage levels for Ontario
  • A job offer in a position that is necessary to the business
  • For those already working, the expected salary must be equal to or greater than the current wage being paid
  • Two consecutive years of relevant work experience in the previous five years before the date of application
  • Relevant mandatory licensing in Ontario, if the job offer requires
  • Be living abroad, working, studying, or visiting Canada on a valid legal permit
  • The Intention to settle in Ontario

To qualify for the International Student Stream the applicant must have:

  • A permanent and full-time job offer under NOC 0, A or B that meets the median wage levels for Ontario
  • A job offer in a position that is necessary to the business
  • For those already working, the expected salary must be equal to or greater than the current wage being paid
  • Graduated or meet the requirements of a full time two-year degree (minimum) from a publicly-funded Canadian college or university or,
  • Graduated or met requirements of a full-time minimum one-year post-graduate diploma program from a publicly-funded Canadian college or university
  • Already completed at least half the study in Canada
  • Applied within two years from the date the candidate has completed the course
  • Legal status in Ontario
  • Intention to settle in Ontario

The U.S. announces extension of closure of the land border with Canada until October 21

The U.S. has once again extended the closure of the land border with Canada till October 21. The U.S land borders to both Canada and Mexico will remain closed despite Canada allowing fully vaccinated American travelers since the start of August.

The land borders have been closed since March 2020, but America has slowly eased restrictions on air travel for fully vaccinated foreigners. Now those traveling to the U.S by air will need proof of completed vaccination and a negative test taken 72 hours before boarding. Unvaccinated U.S citizens will now require a test one day before traveling to or leaving the country. Vaccinated travellers will be exempt from quarantine on arrival.

Canada started allowing all fully vaccinated international travelers with a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of their flight from September 7th. Before travel, all details must be uploaded to the ArriveCAN app.

The IRCC has informed applicants who for a visitor visa before September 7 to re-apply if their requirement to travel has changed and they are traveling to Canada for one of the following reasons.

  • to reunite with family members in Canada, including permanent and temporary residents
  • for compassionate reasons such as attending a funeral, being present during the final moments of a loved one’s life, and providing care to a critically ill person
  • to visit on business
  • to assume a position as a diplomat, or to travel as an accompanying immediate family member
  • to join a vessel as a marine crew member
  • to handle the affairs of a victim of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752.

  5. Physical therapist assistants
  6. Information security analysts
  7. Home health and personal care aides
  8. Medical and health services managers
  9. Data scientists and mathematical science occupation
  10. Physician assistants

Industries that make use of green energy, healthcare, and IT are expected to grow at an exponential rate across North America. In Canada, the boom in several jobs is attributed to the fact that there are many pathways for highly-skilled tech workers to gain permanent residency in Canada. These include programs like Global Talent Stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. Under this program, work permits and visa applications are processed in approximately two weeks.

The fastest-growing job over the next decade, as reported by the data is the wind turbine service technician. The employment rate of these jobs over the next 10 years is expected to go up by 68.2 percent at an approximate annual wage of $56,230 USD.

Nursing jobs come in at a second with their growth projected at 52.2 percent in the next decade. The average annual wage of these nurses is $111,680 USD.

Solar panel installers at placed at the third position on this list as demand for these workers is expected to go up by 52.1 percent with them earning an annual salary of $46,470 USD. The home health and personal care aide jobs industry is expected to grow by 32.6 percent, making it the seventh on this list but this sector has the lowest annual wages on the list at $27,080 USD only.

Medical and health services manager jobs are expected to grow by 32.5 percent making these jobs the eighth on the list with annual wages of $104,280 USD. Job opportunities for statisticians are projected to increase by 35.4 percent, at an annual wage of $92,270 USD while the IT analysts sector is expected grow by 33.3 percent, with them earning almost $103,590 USD annually.

Amazon Canada to hire 15,000 new warehouse and distribution workers; increases wages to attract employees

Amazon Canada is starting a huge hiring fair from this week to fill up to 15,000 jobs in a bid to expand its workforce within the country. This marks an increase of almost 60 percent to the companies already existing workforce in the country which numbers at 25,000. The company is also making advances to attract workers from other companies with a significant increase in wages during the labor shortage. The company held a virtual job fair on 15th of September to recruit new employees.

Amazon Canada is starting to increase its starting wage for employees to an amount between $17 and $21.65 per hour. Currently, the starting employees are paid $16 an hour, which marks the increase as a raise of almost 6.25 to 35.3 percent on the current base pay.

“We have a job for just about everyone,” said Ardine Williams, vice-president of human development.

More details of the Parents and Grandparents program released by the IRCC

The new ITA’s for the Parents and Grandparents Program will be issued by the IRCC starting September 20 over a course of two weeks. The IRCC is set to accept 30,000 new applications for the program with candidates who submitted an interest to sponsor form in fall 2020 undergoing random selection.

Summary of the Application Process:

  • The new ITAs will be sent to the candidates on the email address included on the interest to sponsor form.
  • The candidates who receive these new ITAs will be given 60 days to submit a full application.
  • Once an ITA is received, the candidate has to complete two applications. They are – 1. Application to become a sponsor. 2. Application for permanent residence for parents or grandparents.
  • Both the applications can be submitted online at once.
  • Candidates should be careful and not fill out an application unless they receive an ITA. This is to avoid using any outdated forms or old instructions.
  • Candidates who apply without receiving an ITA will not be refunded the application fee.
  • The IRCC has said that it will make clear more information on how the application process works in the coming weeks.
  • Quebec-based applicants should follow the province’s steps to sponsor their parents and grandparents.

Documents and Information needed to apply:

  • Date of the candidate becoming a Canadian citizen.
  • UCI or client ID number.
  • Application fees: The fees when paid online, includes processing fees for the sponsor, the people being sponsored, and their dependents.
  • Right of Permanent Residence Fee
  • Biometrics fee: to be paid when the application is submitted.
  • Other Fees: The candidate may also need to pay fees to third parties for procedures like medical exam, police certificate etc.

Prince Edward Island immigration issues 143 invitations in the latest draw

In the latest draw, the Prince Edward Island immigration has issued invitations to 143 skilled worker and entrepreneur candidates. On September 16, the province issued invitations through the Labour Impact, Express Entry, and Business Impact streams. A total of 129 invites were issued to Labour Impact and Express Entry candidates, while 14 invitations were issued to Business Impact candidates with a minimum score of 72 points.

The PEI had launched its Expression of Interest system at the beginning of 2018, and has continued to hold monthly draws ever since, with some exceptions due to the pandemic. A total of 1,955 invites were issued by the PEI in 2020.

The PEI Express Entry Category has two pathways towards Canadian permanent residence, they are as follows:

  1. Skilled Worker Stream
  2. Critical Worker Stream

The Express Entry category operates by considering applicants who are already in the Express Entry Pool for a provincial nomination which adds 600 points to a candidate’s CRS score. This guarantees the candidate an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian immigration.

British Columbia issues a total of 464 invitations in two draws

The British Columbia immigration invited 464 candidates via its British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program in a total of two draws. The two draws, a general one and another targeting two specific NOC codes 0621 and 0631 were held on September 14.

The additional draw was held to balance the needs in all sectors of the labor market due to a high number of people registering in the BC PNP Skills Immigration Registration System in specific occupation categories. This second draw was conducted under the SI and EEBC categories.

The NOC codes 0621 and 0631 are for Retail and Wholesale Trade Managers and for Restaurant and Food Service Managers respectively.

In the general draw, 365 invitations were issued through five streams, and the minimum score was 69 – 90. Meanwhile, in the NOC-specific draw, 99 invitations were issued from four streams, with a minimum score of 105.

The list of cut-off scores for the Skills Immigration subcategories are as follows:

  • Skilled Worker: 90
  • International Graduate: 77
  • Entry Level and Semi-Skilled: 69

The province of British Columbia issues invitations every week, so far it has issued over 8,500 invitations, including some specifically targeting candidates working in the technology sector.

The Skills Immigration category consists of five subcategories, they are:

  • Skilled Worker Category
  • Healthcare Professional Category
  • International Graduate Category
  • International Post-Graduate Category
  • Entry Level and Semi-Skilled Worker Category (This is the only SI category that does not apply to candidates in the Express Entry system)

Alberta Immigration holds biggest ever Express Entry draw

Alberta immigration held its largest-ever Express Entry draw and issued invitations to 500 candidates through its Immigrant Nominee Program. On September 7, the province held the draw that had a minimum score of 300. Excluding the data of 2021, Alberta has 950 applications in the Alberta Opportunity stream and 250 expression of interest applications in the Alberta Express Entry pool.

Requirements for the Alberta Express Entry stream:

  • Candidates must have an active Express Entry profile in the federal Express Entry pool.
  • Have stated an interest in immigrating permanently to Alberta.
  • Should be working in a field that supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification.
  • They should have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 300 points.

Having a job offer from an Albertan employer or work experience in Alberta may improve a candidate’s chances of receiving the notification of interest.

The Alberta immigration statement says that a large number of AINP applications have been received in the following occupations:

  1. 0621 – Retail and wholesale trade managers
  2. 0631 – Restaurant and food service managers
  3. 1241 – Administrative assistants
  4. 1221 – Administrative officers
  5. 4214 – Early childhood educators and assistants
  6. 6211 – Retail sales supervisors
  7. 6311 – Foodservice supervisors
  8. 6322 – Cooks
  9. 7511 – Transport truck drivers
  10. 9462 – Industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers, and related workers

Ontario PNP invites 691 Masters and Ph.D. graduates in the latest draw

In the latest Expression of Interest draw on September 14 through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, the province issued 691 invitations to apply. This draw was through Ontario’s Masters Graduate and Ph.D. Graduate streams. 627 ITA’s were issued to Masters Graduate candidates and 64 ITAs were issued to Ph.D. Graduates. The minimum score in the former was 35 points and 16 points for the latter.

About the Masters Graduate stream: This stream provides international student applicants holding a Masters degree, the opportunity to obtain permanent residence in Ontario without requiring a job offer.

Requirements of the Masters Graduate Stream:

  • The candidate must be a graduate of a Master’s degree program from an eligible institution in Ontario, with the requirement that the course was at least one year full-time.
  • Be a legal resident of Ontario for at least 1 year
  • The candidate should intend to live and work in Ontario and have sufficient settlement funds
  • Should obtain minimum language CLB/NCLC level 7 or above in English or in French.
  • Must have legal status in Ontario or abroad.
  • Applications from any other province in Canada will not be accepted.
  • Applications must be submitted within two years of completing the requirements to graduate with a master’s degree.

About the Ph.D. Graduate stream: This stream provides the international students who hold a Ph.D. degree from Ontario, the opportunity to become permanent residents without requiring a job offer.

Requirements of the Ph.D. Graduate stream:

  • The candidate must be a graduate of a Ph.D. degree program from an eligible institution in Ontario, with the requirement that the course was at least two years full-time.
  • Be a legal resident of Ontario for at least a year
  • The candidate should intend to live and work in Ontario and have sufficient settlement funds
  • Should obtain minimum language CLB/NCLC level 7 or above in English or in French.
  • Must have legal status in Ontario or abroad.
